We had a fairly simple, but busy, Memorial Day Weekend. My mom and I traveled to Utah for a funeral. My sweet friend Kristina's mother passed away, and I was glad that we were able to attend the services. Kristina is a close friend from college, and my heart aches for her and the loss of her mother. It was very emotional and hard for me to attend the funeral. We hurried home to attend the wedding of my nephew, Cameron, and then we caught the UFC fight with Andrea and Casey later that night.
Shelby had spent the night at my house, so we made big plans for primary on Sunday. I am the children's music director, and since Shelby had her guitar, we decided to go "camping". We made a pretend campfire and turned out all the lights. The kids ate smores (uncooked of course), and we sang all of their primary songs while Shelby accompanied us with her guitar. After church, my mother in law had a birthday party for my nephew Carson and I. We had a yummy potluck and visited.
Monday, Memorial Day, was spent visiting graves. I hold a special place in my heart for visiting my passed loved ones each Memorial Day. I feel like our world is so focused on this holiday being a big "vacation"...and I find it so sad to see how few young people are in the cemetaries thinking of their loved ones. I am so glad that my kids can go and ask questions. They want to know more about the people that they didn't ever know...and they have been talking about these people and remembering them. I get really emotional on Memorial Day. I couldn't keep my composure at several of the graves. I miss my grandmas and grandpas so much. I am also very thankful for those who unselfishly given to me and my family by serving our country. I am thankful to have a day set aside to appreciate and remember all of these wonderful people.
Monday night, my parents made us dinner for my birthday. We had a delicious dinner and enjoyed visiting (I even took a nap on their couch...which is something I NEVER do) while the kids shot BBguns and archery with grandpa.
