What an amazing experience. David and I traveled to Kodiak Island, Alaska, recently for a fishing trip with David's parents. It was one of the first times I have ever left my kids...but I knew they were in good hands with my parents. We spent our week at Fish Kodiak Adventures. The lodge was very comfortable, and Rochelle cooked delicious meals for us. Captain Rick Baker was an amazing guide, and we were able to catch plenty of fish! Imagine my surprise when on the third morning, I was jigging when I hooked a fish, and it ran with my line!!! The captain immediately knew that it was a monster, and he handed me the fighting belt. My left arm was burning as I pulled the fish in, reeling with my right hand...and after I almost got the line in, the fish ran again. It took me about 40 minutes to finally get it in, and when I got my first glance of the fish in the water, I gasped at it's size!!! The captain got out his harpoon and soon enough, the fish was in the boat. WOW! A 100lb. Halibut! It was a great experience for sure! I knew it was a big fish when they had to use a fork lift to get it out of the boat back at the lodge!
Elaine also caught a big King Salmon! Us girls outfished the guys by far ;) The men joked that all they did the whole trip, was bait our hooks! I'm so grateful for the opportunity to spend some time with David, and what an amazing trip full of memories it was!
I took this photo from the sky when we left home...I love looking down on our beautiful farming valley...
Awesome photos! Looks like a great fishing trip. I have now added Alaska to my list, thanks to you!

I loved seeing your photos of Kodiak! My son is stationed there with the Coast Guard and the primary reason he chose to be there was because of his love for fishing. He had previously been stationed at Atu, Alaska, the very last island in the chain of islands going out toward Russia. He really loves Alaska and especially Kodiak. He sends us fishing and lots of bear photos. He loves salmon and that seems to be primarily what he catches. Thanks for sharing!
