We spent this past week at Nationals...the National Old Time Fiddler's Contest. Grace, my sister Shelby, and my niece Lindsey all entered the national contest for their second year in a row. Grace moved up to a new age division, ages 9-12, and despite being at the bottom of the food chain, she made the first cut from 71 contestants down to the top fifteen. After her second round, she was cut and didn't make it to the final five, but I can't say enough how proud I am of her. Shelby also made the first cut, but not the final five in her division. They all made me so proud!!!

Shelby and Grace also got to enter the Certified Showcase division for the first time this year. To enter this division, you must have won a certified contest in your area. They are asked to prepare a number including a theme, costume and fiddling. Grace played and sang Old Bell Cow and dressed up like a milk maiden (with Shelby as her cow, Betsy).

Shelby played The Growling Old Man & Cackling Old Woman Medley, and dressed up as half man and half woman...

she won best female entertainer, but we thought she should have won best male entertainer as well ;)

Grace's Rounds: 1st: Leather Britches, Velvet's Waltz, Hot Foot Rag. 2nd: Soppin' the Gravy, Rose of Avenmore, Cotton Patch Rag

Makin' the top fifteen...

the whole week, we camped with my parents in "fiddle town". Musicians come from all over the country to enjoy and play music. The kids from our area got together for quite a few jam sessions...I just love seeing them enjoy music together...

and my niece Lindsey also played beautifully...so proud of her as well!!!

I have many more photos from the week...you can see more of them here.
