Visiting...

The weather still isn't cooperating with us during spring break, so we're trying to make the most of it anyways. I took the kids to the library this morning, and then we were able to go visit grandma and grandpa Russell. I love visiting my grandparents' homes with my kids...I feel so blessed to have both sets of grandparents still here. I have so many wonderful memories of visiting them as a child. I hope that my kids can build some of those memories as well...

grandpa turned 82 yesterday...he has never really been a "lovey-dovey" type of grandpa, but I love how Russell just gravitates towards him. He always climbs on his lap and cuddles or sits with grandpa...

Ridin' in Style...

When David and Russ dissapeared to do "boy stuff" today, I thought they were going to work on farm equipment in the shop...I was wrong. Apparently, they've been scheming about hooking Russell up with a little dirt bike of his own. He's going to turn eight next month, and he thinks he is big enough to work on the farm. Dad rides his bike to check fields and to check on pumps, pivots and wheel lines. I guess Russell thinks he is the real deal now...he's ready to farm and help his dad...

it's not called a dirt bike for nothin'...

Now, if his mother can keep from having a heart attack...everything will be dandy ;) 

Printable Easter Activities...

Today was offically the first day of Spring Break for my kids. We had plans to work in the yard, clean out the chicken coop and play outdoors. We woke up to snow this morning, so everything went out the window...and the rest of the week isn't looking so good either. After everyone completed all of the chores on their chore lists, I pulled out a fun little book that I've been waiting to use. I found this little book of holiday printables at a thrift store recently...it was published in the 80's by Sis 'N I Publications, but I can't seem to find anything about the company now, so I thought it would be okay to share some of these fun activities for kids...my kids had a great time working on these today...and I thought maybe I'm not the only one trying to find productive activities for my kids during spring break. I have included scans of the pages below so you can print them off. There are more fun pages that my kids are going to work on during the week, so I'll add those as we do them:)

Idaho History Program...

Today was Grace's Idaho History program at school. She has had such a great time learning all of the new songs at school for this program, and she was excited that her teacher asked her to play a couple of fiddle tunes for the program.

A Taste of Summer...Even though It's Snowing...

You heard me correctly...I said SNOWING! We woke up to snow this morning and it's snowing lightly outside as I type. I had to wake up early to take two kids to the dentist, I still have sick kids and a sick hubby...and well, the snow just isn't helping my morale this morning. Luckily, there is something that is attempting to boost my attitude for the week...

Kate and I gathered all this goodness...from our own backyard yesterday. Fresh eggs from the coop and tomatoes and cukes from the greenhouse. Kate and I set to work making a salad for lunch. This delicious recipe came from my sweet Grandma Russell, and it is my favorite way to use up a bunch of tomatoes and cucumbers! Kate washed the veggies, peeled the cucumbers for me and picked the stems off the tomatoes while I chopped away...then we paired with a slice of my sourdough bread with butter (have I ever mentioned how much i love butter???).

Here is the recipe...it doesn't sound like a whole lot, but it is sooooo yummy! (this is coming from someone who loves tomatoes and cucumbers though ;)

Tomato and Cucmber Salad

-3-4 tomatoes chopped (or use cherry tomatoes)

-1-2 cucumbers chopped

-1-2 stalks celery chopped

-2 Tbs. white vinegar

-1 Tbs. white sugar

-1/2 tsp. salt

-1/8 tsp. fresh ground pepper

Chop veggies. Combine remaining ingredients and toss with veggies.
