My Crazy Life as a Farmers Wife

Monday, Monday...

 Lovely day :) After a holiday, several snow days and lots of fun together time as a family, I'll admit it is nice to be back on a schedule today. We woke up early and got the older two kids off to school. David was out plowing in his tractor when the bus driver signaled him to stop, and asked if he could plow him through the townsite and up one country road that he was worried about. One bus in the area had already gotten stuck this morning, and he didn't want to risk it, so David led the bus, plowing the way so that they didn't get stuck. You see, we got a big snow storm again yesterday...about 6+ inches of snow, and our church was cancelled, but because the plows had hit most of the main roads, they decided to hold school today. I wish I could have seen the look on my kids' face as they rode that bus with their dad plowing the way in his big red tractor :)

Getting back to my schedule means WORK! There is lots that needs done around here today. After cleaning the house this morning, I made the girls a special lunch...they thought it was super fun...

My lunch was one of those "grab a bite as you walk by" sort of things...

After checking on the chickens and doing ouside chores, I had a lot of eggs to wash. We've been gathering them every day, but I haven't washed them for a few days, so there was a lot to wash...

dinner in the crock pot, because Grace has violin/fiddle lessons tonight, and then she and her cousins are having a rehearsal for a fund raiser/benefit that they are performing at tomorrow night...

and to think...it's only 1:00 :) It should be a productive Monday.

Thanksgiving...

We had plans to travel to my sister's house in Boise this year, but with all of the bad weather, the roads were horrible, and we just didn't want to risk it. We were all sad, because we were really looking forward to seeing my sister and her family. Instead, we stayed home and  were able to hit up both sides of the family. We went to David's parents for lunch, and my parents for dinner. It was a great day...I ate too much, and really didn't do anything productive...so it was a perfect Thanksgiving spent with family :)

I have so much to be thankful for this year. A family who is always there for me, and whose presence I enjoy so much, that I scarcely have the need for a friend. Children who enrich my life, and give me a purpose for waking up each day. I cannot express how proud I am of them, and the unconditional love that I feel for them. A husband who is honestly my best friend...I don't know how two people could be more in sync. I love him more than words could ever express. The Lord has blessed me with so many other "worldly" posessions...a beautiful home and farm...clothes on our backs and an abundance of food. I live in the most beautiful place on earth, and I have to opportunity to raise my kids in the country.   I'm thankful to wake up each morning and breathe the fresh air of the country...to gather eggs, work in the greenhouse, mow my own lawn, to work together as a family. I'm grateful for the legacy of an amazingly tight knit family. We live next door to David's parents...and every one of his siblings and their kids live within four miles. My parents live 20 minutes away, and my sister, who lives the farthest away from all my family, is about 4 1/2 hours away. I am thankful that we can do so much together, and I am so thankful for the love and support that all of my family shows to me. I am thankful for the blessings and gifts of life that I know come from my Heavenly Father. I'm thankful for the opportunity to work hard and to always push myself to learn new things.  My heart is indeed full, and I have so much to be thankful for this year.

Blizzard...

There is a full out blizzard outside...we're all stuck indoors. School was cancelled and the roads are all closed. The snow is flying, and at some points, I can't even see my chicken coop in the back yard...

the garbage in the kitchen was full, but I didn't dare venture out to the dumpster, so I sat it on the front porch until later. When i opened the door to shake out a rug, there was a poor little bird hiding in behind the garbage sack...it must have been trying to find shelter from the storm. It flew into the tree until I left, and then flew right back behind the garbage sack...

We're all feeling a little bummed, because we were supposed to travel to my sister's house for Thanksgiving, but with the road conditions, it's not looking like it will happen.

The kids are putting together puzzles, Grace has been painting their fingernails, and now, they're playing with Grace's Pixos. They don't seem to mind being trapped inside on a winter day. I am working on graphic design work and trying to keep warm. My wool socks are doing the trick...

Well HELLO Winter...

Even in Idaho, the big snow storms usually wait until well after Thanksgiving, but this year, winter has come early! The kids were supposed to have school today, but after it snowed and blowed all night long, they woke up and found out the roads were drifted with snow and school was cancelled! We have a blizzard warning tomorrow, and it's still blowing outside, so they might get lucky and get out of school tomorrow as well :) David and Russ were up bright and early this morning, just waiting to get outside and clear out the driveway...and get all of the roadways cleared so that the truck drivers could come and transport potatoes out of our cellars...

this evening, the kids all dressed up in their snow gear and headed outside to play while I made a big pot of beef stew for dinner...now, we're all just hangin' out and trying to stay warm :)

Today...

 It's been snowing outside. Big, wet, beautiful flakes...

 

The kids have been outside playing, and rolling giant snowballs...

(and shelby is here hanging out for the weekend...my parents said that even though they are married, it is as if they have joint custody with me, and have to send her over for the weekend...LOL!)

David and I worked in the greenhouse for a bit while they played outside...

I worked on removing various seeds from sunflowers I've been drying. I'm saving the seeds to plant next year...

all of the leftovers went to the chickens, and some were sat out for the birds and squirrels...

Happy Mail Day...I got a package from a sweet friend today...Thanks Brittany for making my day :)

Shelby and Grace decided that they really needed some guacamole, so David and I ventured out for a quick run to the store for avocados...

and we came home and made guacamole (and I put it in the bowl set I bought in Mexico last year...Oh, how I'm longing to be on the beach right now)

Oh...and I'm officially listening to Christmas music now. I just love Christmas music...especially when it's bluegrass or old-school stuff like Bing Crosby or the Andrews Sisters :)
