Dressin' Up...

Halloween has always been one of my favorite holidays. I think it because we have such a drought...there aren't any big holidays between Fourth of July and Halloween, so I think that sometimes the Halloween holiday gets thrown a little out of whack. This year, there have been (in my opinion), way too many parties and carnivals. The kids had some sort of Halloween activity every day this week...lots of dressing up...which luckily, we like to do :) The girls are being Little Red Riding Hood again this year...

my mom went to a lot of work sewing these outfits last year, so we're using them again while they fit. I'll get more pics of Grace and Russ tomorrow. The kids aren't the only ones who enjoy dressing up...I like the excuse to wear one of my old dresses and jewelry, and this year, I am even wearing David's grandma Coral's old glasses...I just love old glasses!

I hope you all enjoy your Halloween. We're looking forward to homemade chili, breadsticks and pumpkin cake, followed by Trunk or Treat at our church.

Pumpkin Walk...

David's brother and his wife host a little Pumpkin Walk each year for our small community. They have a pumpkin patch and the sell pumpkins and veggies each year. Grace and I worked on a pumpkin to enter this year, and she was so excited to find out that she won in the kids division (she won a bike!!!). Our family spent the evening looking at all the pumpkins and drinking hot chocolate and trying to stay warm in the cold weather!

This pumpkin happened to be Grace and Kate's favorite one of all...Kate couldn't stop talking about the puking pumpkin...

Pumpkin Shirts...

the kiddos like to have holiday shirts, and so I decided to make them myself this year...super simple, but I think they turned out pretty good...

ETA: to make the shirts, simply buy the double sided iron-on facing (sorry, don't know the correct term). Cut a piece of facing and fabric that are the same size. Peel off one side of the facing and iron it onto the fabric, leaving the paper on the back of the facing. Trace a pumpkin shape on the paper on back and cut out. Remove the paper and iron onto shirt. Repeat steps using green fabric. Sew around edges using matching thread (sew in about 1/8"). Sew bow and button onto shirt using a needle and thread. Super easy.

Today...

we woke up to a call informing us that there would be no school. A horrible wind storm passed through last night and downed power lines and trees at the schools. No snow fell during the night, but this morning, it started to snow and blow...

after chores were done and dinner put in the crock pot, we made some of Amy's Pumpkin Pie Playdough. It's a huge hit...the kids are settled down at the table in the laundry room, rolling, cutting and shaping dough into all sorts of creations...and I'm sitting down to do some work on the computer :)

 
  
we made Halloween sugar cookies yesterday...wish I would have know that we would have a whole day without school today and we could have done that : ( This weather is making me want to bake and curl up in a blanket!
