Our potato digging operation just got rained out this morning...so I'm busy trying to wash produce from last nights Do or Die picking operation. There is supposed to be a hard freeze tonight, and there won't be any thing left in the garden after tonight, so as soon as we were done cooking for the work crew last night, the kids and I spent the rest of the evening in the garden. We picked all of our pumpkins, gourds, and mini pumpkins, all the ripe tomatoes (and then we pulled up the tomato plants and moved them indoors and hung them so they will finish rippening), we picked what was left of the peppers (which was a LOT) and onions. We also cut off some of the sunflowers and zinnias to save seeds for next year. I can't believe how fast the growing season has come and gone. I'm going to miss having all the fresh produce in my back yard. I think Grace will be glad that she no longer has to make produce runs to the garden every night before dinner though! (so...if any of you are getting sick of the garden talk and produce pictures, I think you might be in luck, cause this about sums it all up).
I'm dehydrating a few of the peppers to use in soups this winter...
we have a lot of mini pumpkins...the kids love to draw faces on these with the colored Sharpies. It keeps them busy until Halloween...(and I use a few for fall decor)
yet more tomatoes...
I think that I'll be making more salsa soon!
