For any of you in the Eastern Idaho area who have children interested in Violin, Fiddle or Guitar lessons, my super talented little sister is teaching again this year. She is an amazing teacher, and she works especially well with children of all ages (she has even taught a lot of kids older than herself). She is super mature and responsible, and she is a talented young musician. If you're interested, please give her a call...I know you won't regret it!
Finally...I basically threw this recipe together combining recipes and ideas in my head...and after you all requested the recipe, I couldn't remember how I made it, so I had to recreate...
Raspberry Pound Cake (Sherelle Christensen)
-1 c. butter, softened
-2 cups white sugar
-4 eggs
-1 tsp. vanilla extract
-1 tsp. almond extract
-3 cups all-purpose flour
-1 teaspoon baking powder
-1/2 teaspoon salt
-1 tsp. cinnamon
-1 1/2 cups fresh raspberries
Preheat oven to 325 degrees. Cream butter and sugar. Add eggs one at a time beating well each time. Add extracts and then add flour, baking powder, salt and cinnamon. Gently fold in raspberries (I usually coat my raspberries with a little flour first). Grease 2 standard bread pans. Coat with a mixture of cinnamon and sugar. Divide batter between pans. Bake for about 1 hour or until a toothpick comes out clean. (I like to cover mine with tinfoil about half way through cooking so that the top doesn’t get to dark). Remove from oven and cool 10 minutes. Remove from pan onto wire rack. Glaze while still warm.
Caramel Glaze:
-1/2 c. butter
-1/2 c. brown sugar
-1/2 c. heavy cream
Combine in a small saucepan until warm and bubbly. Pour over warm bread.
Enjoy : ) (and when I say enjoy, I really mean gain 5 lbs...because this stuff is so delicious and fattening, you just can't stop)
It's been a whirlwind around here..school starting, trying to organize the house after kids being home all summer, canning and freezing garden bounty, grain harvest, birthdays, the list goes on and on. I'll try to play catch up starting with today...
Shelby and I canned salsa today...my garden is quickly rippening tomatoes this year (thanks to all those tomato haircuts ;) We got 10 quarts of canned salsa and 3 quarts of fresh salsa to eat right away (making taco salads for dinner tonight with lots of fresh salsa).

Yesterday was a big day...It happened to be Grace's 8th birthday and she and Russell's first day of school. She requested one of her favorite dinners (chicken bundles), and raspberry peach pie for her "cake".

we surprised her with a nice keyboard for her birthday...she wants to learn to play the piano. I would love for her to take piano lessons, but with all the time she spends on violin, I just think it wouldn't leave her much free time. Maybe when she gets a little older...
Before school started, Grace and I spent the day canning more pickles. The cucumbers are producing in high numbers, and we love pickles...and I wanted to can while I had my helper at home still...
we made both dill pickles and sweet pickles...
I snapped some more pictures of them harvesting grain...I am ready for David to be done. We're almost there...a couple more days and we should have it all cut. They've cut about 2,500 acres...
We continue to spend many evenings working in the garden... (and yes, I do take my camera everywhere with me)...

My oldest is turning 8, which means she'll be getting baptized. We took some photos for an invitation to her baptism, and I am trying to decide which ones I like best...can you help me? Her beautiful dress and hair accessories came from All Things Ribbon. I've come down with a terrible cold, and a nasty sore throat...but I'm trying to keep myself motivated. This invite is on the list of things I need to get done ASAP...

Do you ever feel overwhelmed??? I've been feeling it a lot lately. I'm worn out...the garden is producing like crazy (which is good...yet bad, because everything needs to be eaten, frozen or canned, and that takes time)(the weeds are producing like crazy too!), school is starting next week, Grace is having a birthday, David is busy in harvest, my poor mom fell...one leg into a window well and fractured her Sacrum and needs my help, I have a lot of projects and other responsibilities (including some work), and to top it all off, I think I have a really sore throat, and I just don't feel like doing anything :P Unfortunately, not doing anything is not something that I can allow to happen, so I just keep plugging away...it's late, and I'm tired, but I'm still waiting for David to get home from cutting grain, so I'm going to tackle the only thing that I have enough energy to do tonight...update my blog ;)
Grace had a birthday party yesterday...she is turning 8 next week (on the first day of school), and this is her very first birthday party with friends. I'm not a real fan of the whole friend party thing, but I told them that they could have one every several years (I'm thinking every 8 years LOL). As much as I don't like the whole birthday party thing (unless it's a family party), it turned out great. She had such cute and sweet friends, as well as her cousins and aunt Shelby. They spent the afternoon having a pizza party, swimming and slip-n-sliding, riding on the barrel train and playing water balloon games...I'm so glad that she enjoyed her special day with all of her friends...
