I wanted to share a special birthday with you today...I know she doesn't read my blog (or even know what the internet is for that matter), but I want to tell you about my sweet great grandmother who is 99 years old today...

Grandma1_3

Grandma2_2She is one of the oldest residents in the town of Shelley (my hometown), and her family was one of the first to settle in this area. She has lived an amazing life, and she is the sweetest grandmother. She was born in 1909, and her family was a group of pioneers who settled in a very uncivilized west...I can't imagine how things have changed in her life here on earth. After each of my four children were born, I instantly rushed over to get a photo taken with their great great grandma (you never know at her age...), and here she is, still smart and witty as can be at the ripe age of 99. I grew up living next door to her, so we always had a special relationship. I am so happy to know such a wonderful woman who is a wonderful example. And how special is it that my children can know their great great grandma? We are truly grateful for every day that we have with her. I love her so much, and hope that she had a wonderful birthday...I am hoping that we will get to celebrate her big 100th birthday next year!

Catch Up...

Things have been crazy. We went to Missoula for a few days this weekend, and my two little girls and I ended up with the stomach flu. We have all been puking and feeling pretty nasty...I can't tell you how much laundry we have done in the past few days with the two babies puking. Luckily, my mom came to help me yesterday since I was up all night. Thanks mom...I love you! I am atually feeling a little better this morning, so I decided I'd hurry and post my most recent layouts  for the 31 in 31 challenge. I was doing really good, but I am starting to fall behind...this puts me at 23 layouts...I am hoping I can pull myself together and meet the goal!

And since I was tagged by Shelly...

What is his name? David, Charles

How long have you been married? 7 years

Who long did you date? 8 months

How old is he? 28

Who eats more sweets? Him! He loves chocolate and any kind of sweets. I prefer salty snacks.

Who said I love you first? He did

Who is taller? He is

Who can sing better? Ummm....me for sure.

Who is smarter? It's a toss up. We both have high and low points. He is super good at Math, and I am horrible. But I am smarter with the computer and I have a better memory. He is very mechanical, I am artisitc. I like to think that we really balance each other out.

Who does the laundry? Usually me, but he helps out every now and then.

Who pays the bills?  Him...the farm bills are way too overwhelming for me.

Who sleeps on the right side of the bed?  Me. It's closer to the door, and I used to be the one who always got up with the kids. We now take turns.

Who mows the lawn?   I do! When you're married to a farmer, the last thing he has time to worry about is your yard. He is way to busy with his crops in the summer time.

Who cooks dinner? In the spring, summer & fall, it is always me. But in the winter when he has time off, he really likes to cook. Some of his best dishes are fajitas, prime rib, homemade tortillas with to die for chicken tacos and tinfoil dinners. He is actually a really good cook!

Who drives? Usually him.

Who is more stubborn? Ummm...HIM!

Who kissed who first? I actually think I kissed him!

Who asked who out first? We had a math class together at ISU. We had both transferred there from different schools (me from Ricks and him from Utah State). I spilled my Mountain Dew all over the table...it was embarrasing, but it was a good item for him to tease me about. I think he is the one who started flirting with me, but I was a little impatient, and I think I was the one who finally asked if he was ever going to ask me out.

Who proposed? He did. I was home sick, in my PJs, sleeping on the couch. He had just gotten the ring and I think he was way too excited/nervous to wait for the perfect moment.

Who has more siblings? He has 4 siblings, I have 2

Who wears the pants? Even though we both share in a lot of decisions, I still think he wears the pants.

I tag Tawsha, Lori, Rachel Arnold, Amanda and Heather Robertson

Music Share...

Nicolecdcover_2  I Just wanted to share something with my blog readers this morning. I want to tell you about my amazingly talented cousin, Nicole Sheahan, who is an amazing musician. She is just starting off her career, and she has released her first CD. She has a very soft and beautiful voice, and she plays the piano and guitar. Her music has a bit of a Christian theme, so it is very uplifting. She recently gave me a CD, and I am enjoying every minute of it, so I thought I would pass it along. She is really trying to market her music (that is now available on iTunes), and I wish her the best! You can view her blog here, and you can go to her website here. Remember that you can also purchase her music on iTunes (and hear samples of all of her music). I am so proud of her, that I just have to share a little bit of her music...

Chicken Bowtie Pasta...

OMG...I just threw some random stuff together in a crockpot for dinner tonight, and it turned out SOOOOOOOOO good! It reminds me (almost exactly) of the Johnny Carino's Bow Tie Festival dish. I just had to share...

Sherelle's Chicken Bow Tie Pasta

Combine the following in a crockpot:
-6 skinless, boneless chicken breasts
-1 jar four cheese alfredo sauce
-1 can cream of chicken soup
-3/4 pkg. Real Bacon Pieces
-1 pkg. fresh sliced mushrooms
-1/2 pkg. of dry Italian Dressing Mix
-1 cup swiss cheese, cubed
-1/4 stick of butter, melted
-Salt and pepper

Cook on low 6-7 hours, shredding chicken about 1 hour before finished. Serve over cooked bow tie pasta. enjoy!

Digital Scrapbooking Q&A...

First off...here are my most recent layouts for the 31 in 31 challenge

Kate_zipKates_drawer_2 Now onto the Q&A section. I have been receiving a lot of emails and questions about everything, so I will try to offer you as much info as I can. Keep in mind, that I am no expert. I have only been doing this for a short while, but i will tell you what I know.

Q: Do you only digi scrap now?

A: Of course not! I still have tons of paper supplies that need used! I still enjoy creating with my hands...creating altered projects, occasional layouts and cards, but as far as getting layouts done and getting memories recorded (I have four little ones you know), I find that digital is much faster.

Q: What program do you use?

A: Adobe Photoshop Elements. I am wanting to upgrade to Photoshop CS3, but if you are just beginning, Elements will do everything you need it to do, and it will be much easier to learn. There are other programs out there, specifically targeted towards digital scrapbooking that are a lot easier, but I don't think they allow any sort of creative freedom that Photoshop does.

Q: How did you learn Photoshop? How can I learn it?

A: I actually first purchased Photoshop Elements strictly for editing photos. I basically taught myself how to use the program with a lot of playing around and experimenting. I am currently using Adobe Lightroom for my photos, and Photoshop Elements for my digital scrapbooking. To get yourself started, there are tons of free tutorials out there is cyberspace. Here is a link to a great site that contains lots of info. I promise that with a little work, you can do it!

Q: How do you organize all of your layouts? Photos? Digi Scrapping Elements?

A: It's quite simple actually. The first thing you will need if you are really serious about this (besides Photoshop Elements) is an external hard drive. You will need this because a)if you store everything on your computer's hard drive it will slow down your computer b)if your computer crashes, you will be SOL...and everything will be gone forever c)it is so handy to have everything in one easy to access place. Once you get even more serious, you will really start seriously thinking about the horrid thought of losing everything, and you will buy an external to back up your external. I currently have an external HD that is always connected to my computer, and another to back it up occasionally. The back up one stays in a fire proof safe.

To answer how I organize everything...hmmmm...this is hard to explain. On my external HD, I have three main folders: Family Photos (broken down into subfolders with years and then months), Digital Layouts (This is where I save finished layouts until it is time to print them...it has a folder for each of the kids and then subfolders with years and then months), and lastly, Digital Scrapbooking Supplies let me show you how my folders are set up on my external HD, because this one is a  little more confusing:

Digital Scrapbooking Supplies

     Alphabets

Basics (in this folder, I have things like metal clips, staples, plain colored brads etc.)

Brushes (this is where I store all of my Photoshop brushes)

     Buttons

Calendar (for some of the calendar digi kits I have)

     Flowers

     Frames

     Holidays & Seasons

          Christmas

          Easter

          Summer

Fall (you get the idea...there are a lot more subfolders, but I won't bore you anymore)

     Overlays & Inked Edges

     Journaling

Mini Album & Premade Album Templates

     Ribbons & Trims

          Ribbon

          Rick Rack

          Trims & Laces

     Stitching

     Themes

In the themes folder, I have lots of subfolders like boy, girl, baby, school, cooking, birthday etc

     Templates & Premade pages

Tools (masks, clipping masks, actions, presets etc)

     Favorite Designer/Digi Stores

          Shabby Miss Jenn

          Shabby Princess

          Dani Mogstad

          Designer Digitals

The Sweete Shoppe (these are places that I frequently shop, or designers that I really like)

When I download a kit, I usually will keep it under the designer, or store name. If it is holiday or themed, I will also store it under that folder. If the kit contains some nice buttons or flowers, I will copy the flower or button into the flower or button folder. One thing I use a lot is journaling...and a lot of kits contain nice little jouranling cards/papers/bits. I store all of these both with the kit, and also in the journaling folder. I know there are tons of ways to organize this stuff, but this is what has worked well for me. More often than not, the stuff gets stored in several different places so it is easy to find when I need it.

Q: How do you print your digi layouts?

A: My paper scrapbooks are mostly 9x9, so if I am mixing in a layout, then I will simply print it in 8.5"x8.5" so that I can use regular photo paper. I then mount it on a 9x9 piece of cardstock. But for now, I am currently saving all of my layouts until I finish up my 2007 photos, and then I will print a photobook from shutterfly.com with all of the layouts. I have ordered these books before, and the thing I love about them, is that they are so professional, compact and my kids can actually sit down and read through them like a story book.

Q: Do you teach any digi classes?

A: I currently don't, but I think that I know enough of the basics that I would probably be able to teach a few classes quite easily. I have been thinking about offering some for locals (Idaho Falls area), so if you are interested in taking a class, would you please email me.

Q: Where can I find Digital Scrapbooking Freebies?

A: www.ikeagoddess.blogspot.com

     www.shabbyprincess.com

     http://digifree.blogspot.com/

     http://fotoscrapluna.blogspot.com/

(there are tons of free things out there...these are just a few link to get you started)

Q:What are your favorite Digital Scrapbooking Stores?

A: www.designerdigitals.com

     www.shabbymissjenndesigns.com

     www.sweetshoppedesigns.com

     www.scrapartist.com

www.jenwilsondesigns.com (she is currently having a 49% off sale until the 19th)

     www.littledreamerdesigns.com

     www.thedigichick.com

     www.scrapgirls.com

New Year, New Stuff...

So...I've been setting a few small goals for myself this year. You have probably read about the first one...operation get in shape. It's going pretty good thus far. I am Mountain Dew Free...I have been "sober" for almost two weeks now, and I am so proud of myself! The headaches have even started to go away! I have been pretty good about running on the treadmill and I have been eating low fat foods. I have never eaten so healthy in my life, and it SUCKS! Just kidding...but I really enjoy cooking, so it's no fun anymore when you have to cook low fat.

Another of my goals is to be better about catching random activites of the kids on film. I have laughed a little about some of the photo a day challenges happening on blogs out there in cyberspace. It would be a challenge for me to cut down...because I don't think a day goes by that I don't take at least 20. You know how digital cameras assign a numerical digit to each photo? Well, did you know that it resets after 9,999 photos and starts back over at 0001? To be honest, I have reset the number on my camera twice now, and I have only had it for about a year and a half! I know that I will never get all of these photos scrapbooked, but I could honestly spend hours and hours looking through old photos and smiling. Rather that do the photo a day challenge, I have been challenging myself to try to capture more photos of the kids doing everyday things...not just portraits and events...things that I never want to forget. Things like:

Lily and Kate taking baths in the kitchen sink after dinner...

123_3

The way Kate will sit in her chair and slowly devour her food...even a half an hour after the kitchen is cleaned and everyone is gone. She loves to enjoy her dinner...

45Russell and Zip watching TV in his jammies until late in the day. I love how he is just sitting there, zoned into his show and letting the dog gnaw on his hand...6

Kate getting into the dog food...again...89

Grace primping in the morning (adding lip gloss and spritz) before heading to school...

12_2David playing (if you can call it that) with the kids. He hits them with a wet dishcloth and they think it's the funnest game ever. They cry, they scream...but they always come back for more...

7Nightly Wii Championships between David, Grace and Russell. Grace always says "Russell...you got zero points"...and it never fails...Russell says "Is that a lot"? 10And this is an everyday memory in the making...the fact that my husband is literally incapable of taking a normal photo (he loves to bug the crap out of me!)

11

Another Goal (again...photography related), is to brush up on my photography skills. I'll be honest...I understand all of the manual settings on a camera, but I am not quick with them. I get stuck in the slump of shooting with Auto all of the time, because I just don't have time to fool around with my camera when my kids are doing something. Kids don't wait for you to get all of the settings right, so I just don't use them like I should. SOOOO...Two Peas in a Bucket has a free class by Joanna Bolick with weekly challenges and lessons. It just started last week, so it's not too late to join! I am hoping to brush up on all the manual stuff and hopefully make myself use it a little more this year!

I hope that maybe each of you will ask yourself about what everyday things you want to remember about your children and your family life...and snap some photos of these happenings this year!
