What does Saturday mean to you??? Growing up, my father worked for the government, so Saturday was usually his day off, or weekend. We would usually spend the day working in the yard and going to town. Things changed just a little for me when I married a farmer. I'll admit that when growing up, I thought that farming was a lowly and "unglamorous" profession. I never imagined that such a lifestyle would make me one of the happiest gals on earth. I'll admit that we don't always get the best price for our crops, and that the "big guys" are putting the "little guys" out of business...but I can't imagine any other way for our family. This brings me to the subject of Saturday...I have to giggle when people ask me "have anything fun planned for the weekend?", or "where you headed this Saturday?". You see, for us, Saturday is just another day. The only day we don't work, is on Sunday, so Saturday doesn't really stick out as any sort of special day at all. Now that Grace is in school all day long (goodness...I didn't realize I would miss her so much), Saturday has become a little more special because she gets to spend the whole day at home with us.
I toted my camera around with us all day today, and I got to thinking about how thankful I am that Saturday is just another family day, and not a day spent fighting crowds in town. I LOVE this time of year...as dry as it may be, I find it hard not to reflect on the beauty that surrounds me. Shelby (my lil sis) came out to play today, and we headed out in the field. She and Grace & Lily jetted around around on the four-wheelers while Katie and I followed in the Ranger. They loved riding in the wide open space of the wheat field...which was recently cut. Russ rode with his daddy in the tractor...they were busy plowing some of the other grain fields. The girls and I headed over to pick them up in the field later in the afternoon. Russell was doing the usual...he was sacked out on daddy's lap (look close at the tjird photo from the bottom). I snapped a photo of him sleeping in action...too cute! The tractor has serious effects on little boys...it makes their eyelids get really heavy. The kids all rode in the back of the Ranger...they were filthy...lots of dust. Lily and Kate were rockin' the "diaper" fashion all day. I love days like this...it makes me happy to be alive. As I looked out across our little valley and the beautiful mountains to the East, I couldn't help but feel blessed. I am sure there are more beautiful places on earth, but this is my place...and my heart feels really full when I look around at my "home". What is your favorite Saturday activity??? Leave a comment, and I will send some scrapbooking goodies to one lucky person!!!!
